happy day after obama day! im so excited for the country. so nice to have such a classy, sophisticated person in charge for once. its interesting though how deeply some people disagree, and for what reasons. i am sure there are people out there with legitimate enough philosophical differences on politics to disagree with his stance, but today i had a funny, interesting conversation:
friendly old lady in cafeteria: do you like obama?
me: yes! im very excited about the inauguration.
FOLIC: silence.
me: do you like him?
FOLIC: i can't listen to him.
me: why?
FOLIC: silence.
me: you dont like...his voice? what he has to say?
FOLIC: it's his delivery.
me: silence (wondering if its his....black....delivery? hard to say otherwise since most other judges consider him a wonderful orator, even those who disagree with his stance)
she really was a nice old lady. its just weird to see how much people are sometimes effected by their upbringing. exaple earlier in the election my grampa would talk about how much smarter mccain seemed than obama. which led me to a) doubt whether he had actually heard the two of them speak or b) listening through his pre-1960s ears and hearing black voice = dumb?
so maybe its not fair of me to accuse all old people of racism behind their reasons for not liking obama. but you know, i still think it may well be one reason, either consciously or subconsciously. my grampa is a really, incredibly nice man. but hes a product of his time. its ok (or at least forgivable), so am i (my mom says maybe i woudlnt be a liberal if she hadnt had me watch sesame street as a kid).
anyways, just got done getting the crits for another paper. cried in the bathroom, as per usual. ive gotta get this massive ego of mine under control before grad school implodes (THEYRE WRONG THOUGH!!! IM A GENIUS!!! THE WORLD IS UNFAIR TO MY GENIUSNESS!!!).

my favorite obama critic is the Crazy McCain Lady who got up at one of his rallies and said (this is verbatim) "I don't trust Obama...I read about him and he's...a..he's...he's an Arab." to which McCain said "No he's not" and she said "No?" and she pronounced Arab like it was one syllable: "airb"
